Finding Long Term Tendendies in Daily Activities of Poeple with Dementia using RFID Slippers: An exploratory study

چکیده
The development of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology makes it possible to track residents when installed to a house. We studied what valuable information can be extracted from location data of residents when we have carried out the data collection for years. We installed antennas into a group home, where six people with dementia lived, and asked the residents to wear slippers into which RFID tags were inserted. The data has been collected for thirty months. We found a seasonal effect for all residents such that the activity level was lowered towards summer. Looking into individual cases, we identified for a person a rapid decline three months prior to her death. As for another person who fell down, we identified a rapid decline a week prior to the incident. Both showed a change in their behavioural patterns, too. Data collection for long term is useful for assessing residents’ conditions. With sufficient data, we can detect abnormalities.

Aware Group Home Enhanced by RFID Technology
In Japan, a Group Home which offers home-based care service for elderly persons who suffer from dementia have been increased. Even though the small community of the home is suitable for familylike care, the short of caregivers increases the burden especially during midnight. To supplement the lack of attention, we developed floor mats embedded with RFID antenna and slippers with RFID tags. The ...

We have been developing an RFID (radio frequency identification) mat system to assist caregivers in a group home. In Japan, the number of group homes offering home-like care for elderly persons suffering from dementia has increased considerably. Even though the smaller number of people residing in a group home makes it suitable for family-like care, the scarcity of caregivers increases the burd...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Music Intervention on Well-being and Behavior of People with Dementia Using Dementia Care Mapping
Introduction: Dementia Care Mapping (DCM) was originally developed as an observation tool to examine person-centered care in long-term care facilities and to evaluate the quality of life and well-being of people with dementia (PwD). However, the effects of a music intervention using this tool have not been investigated so far. This leads to the following research question: How does a music inte...

We have developed a system with a flexible RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) antenna mat to assist caregivers in a group home. In Japan, a group home is a type of home-based care service for elderly persons who suffer from dementia. The caregivers working in the group home must always pay attention to such persons. Since the level of dependency of each elderly person is different, the careg...
